It is so simple to get lost in our day to day life, the difficulties, the struggles, the projects and the battle with life. It is easy to ramble through our problems and forget to be grateful for all the things that we do have. The awesome thing about being grateful is that it shifts the way we see things and makes us happier.
“Stop pitying yourself, people have it worse, you should be grateful.”
You’ve probably heard this before, and it’s some of the most difficult, unhelpful advice around and specially when you are low or frustrated. When gratitude is inspired by guilt, obligation, or shame, that’s not gratitude at all. True gratitude is a tool that serves a number of purposes.
I started following gratitude practice when I faced a near to death experience while rappelling, yeah, it is very easy to say now, but it was one of the ultimate moment in my life when I was hanging middle in the air with one rope, with no energy to move and with complete numbness. For a moment I lost hope; and I surrendered that I am going to die next moment, my mind was working but my body was completely numb and that’s when everyone’s name and things started coming to my mind and I was saying thanks to them for supporting me, after a minute I was safe on the ground with no scratch on the body, I should thanks Trekmateindia and Nilesh Patil & Team who saved my life.
Being grateful on that moment gave me boost and it is helping me every time to be happy and inspired, if you are grateful for things what you have grace will follow you.
How to Feel Grateful
Gratitude is just being appreciative & satisfied of what you have. It’s easy to say you’re grateful and remind yourself to be grateful when you’re feeling a little low or spoiled. Embracing gratitude as a feeling, however, is a different story. That’s what makes it a powerful tool, not just a nice habit. And the good news is, it’s an easy enough to practice as you just need to say thanks for whatever you have.
A regular gratitude session is an easy way to get started. This just involves sitting down and making a list of things you’re grateful for. Leaving notes for your future self is fun game, and so is simply writing down a list of things you’re grateful for.
I have a grateful stone with me which was given by my friend when she took my tarot reading, I do carry it with me every time to remind myself about practicing gratefulness.
Gratitude Makes You Strong
There are so many studies on gratitude the one which I liked and can relate to is published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, as per study people who practice gratitude and write it down are more happier.
If I can conclude the study in few words
People who practice gratitude are reported more satisfied with their lives as whole, they are optimistic about everything and feel more connected with others then the person in the control condition. Therefore, it proves that practicing gratitude will lead to substantial and consistent improvements in people’s life.
it is so easy & obvious why wouldn’t you feel happier when thinking about happy things? but I would like to emphasize on “Substantial & Consistent”. it is the formula to be happy always
Be grateful always!
Be grateful for what you have
If you don’t have, then be grateful that you are alive and can work to have it in future.
